The Teacher's Role
In the Reggio Emilia approach the teachers are guides, co-constructors. They do not direct the child in play or learning. Their focus is to listen, observe, capture, motivate, and document the children’s passions and interests as they support a creative learning environment with effective class management skills. Children come to their own conclusions when problem solving. We’ve been amazed at how richly engaged the learning journey is for both teachers and children. For example, teachers challenge children to come to their own hypotheses.
An open level of communication with parents is part of this learning process while offering additional resources that support the Parent-School connection. Reflective practice is at the heart of both learning and teaching at Little Jack’s Corner.
